So, it's almost a new year, and reflecting back on 2008... what can I say have been highlights of this year? Definitely the trip to Japan, for not only was much exp gained from there, it widened my world by quite a lot.

From Japan 3

Now I know why people like travelling, like exploring new places, like experiencing new culture and be adventurous.

What else in the year 2008? Finishing yet another year of uni, the few birthday parties

From Jessica's party

From Justin's 21st

From Manda's 21st in Wonderland

What else.. hm... the making and breaking of bonds with others, going to new places and trying new food... D= I just realised I never blogged about my "recent" batch of photos in picasa!

This was taken at ice and slice.

Was checking email and this random one by REMO store had a very nice quote.

Have you succeeded in 2008? Put yourself to this test set by American philosopher & poet Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 to 1882):

"To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Merry Christmas! (a bit belated... but oh well!) This is how christmas is meant to be! White... snowy.. cold... Ah, I miss Shirakawago already, if only I was spending Christmas there.

But~ can't complain, the weather here was pretty alright during Christmas eve and day itself. But today.. boxing day, the sun is shining brighter and hotter than before =_= Shall finish reading my fantasy books while sitting here in the comfort of an aircon =D

Oh yea, for detailed entries on the trip to Japan:

なんか...最近, 落ち込んでいる。
なんでだろう。

I think I need pie.

Since I can't have pie, I give you... Okonomiyaki. Hiroshima-style!

From Japan 2

Yum.

I guess to cheer yourself up, you need to look at cute things that will make you smile, right? So going through the photos that I've already uploaded on Japan... shall post the happy times, the cute things, the beautiful sceneries, and.. this:

From Japan 2

The butt of a deer XD It looks so furry and soft, but no, I did not touch it.

From Japan 2

The rainbow after a fox wedding

From Japan 2

Before and...

From Japan 4

After~ little snowmen! (they are actually in two totally different areas)

From Japan 4

Doria! Haha, tried this for TT actually, because the one we had in Sydney was super filling and we couldn't finish half of it even, it was just too creamy. But! The one in Japan was way smaller and I could almost finish it (gave some to my brother in the end) and less creamy. I think I prefer the one in Japan afterall.

From Japan 4

Domo-kun! Or... rather, a demented version of it. Ah, snow is so fun =D

From Japan 4

More snow fun!

From Japan 4

The stunning Swarovski crystal Christmas tree. Beats QVB tree by a hundred fold.

From Japan 4

Shells with paintings from the Tales of Genji. That's right, I did say I'll read the book when I get back to Sydney. Shall have to borrow it from Fisher sometime.

From Japan 4

Wuah, look at the crowd! Shibuya crossing~

From Japan 3

Japan was filled with red maple leaves (momiji) and also heaps of matsu trees... (brain block.. what was matsu again.. I think it's pine trees?)

From Japan 3

Nya~!

From Japan 3

Omochi kaeri! Actually, this was at some park, and there was a man there telling me to bring this one home ; ; If only I could!

From Japan 2

Water, plus red leaves, so beautiful!

From Japan 2

It's a pirate ship! of lights~ The lightings and decorations in Japan puts whatever effort Sydney has at it to shame.

From Japan 2

Rainbow spotted at the Hiroshima dome!

From Japan 1

Sunset~

Yup yup, I know, the photos aren't in any particular order. Oh well! =D Might do another post later... but hm... もう元気になったから、shall end here. Merry christmas!

I suppose I shall do a birthday post.

I think what is considered fun has changed over these years. A friend noted not too long ago that I could actually sit down, have a coffee and chat without getting restless and walking around instead, getting distracted by anything that passes by. While my birthday has been rather uneventful, other than spending time with J.C (thank you~ it’s always nice having a good friend like you around) and going to my last class for this semester, it has been a good one, with many birthday wishes and blessings sent to me via sms, msn or in simple words. A nice, quiet and relaxing day where sleep gets replenished, an extravagant dinner prepared by my dad, enjoyed by the whole family (except sister, who is in America right now) and now, a moment to just sit down and reflect, as I tend to do with my blog entries.

From 2008-15-10-0150-22
Stepping back to the beginning of the week, Monday was a rather hot day, where I met up with a dear friend at Hyde Park (a common place to find me now actually, been going there quite a bit just to walk, to relax, to watch chess games like the one above being played by avid chess players). Spent at least 2 hours watching chess games in the morning with TT, it was just so relaxing, under the shades of the trees and the distant (could have been more distant, but at least it wasn’t way loud) sound of bagpipes being played by a person at the fountains.

If someone said to you that they wanted to see you just for a minute or two, would you get the feeling that it’s something serious (and not necessarily good news either) that they want to tell you/ that you’re in trouble? Got a bit worried when my friend said that to me on Sunday night, but rather than giving me bad news, this was given to me:

XD domo-kun!
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

=D I never actually knew what he was, but I’ve seen that character around pretty often. It’s a brown monster, NHK mascot, with the typical “domo konichiwa!” opening line making up his name of “domo-kun”. Cute, haha.

Still on Monday... let’s see, watched people playing the big chess for a whole morning, talked to a random uncle that sat next to me on the bench, unsuccessfully tried to get TT (head of chess club) to play, and then headed off to grab something to eat.

From 2008-15-10-0150-22

After trying Star Bar and finding the food/atmosphere pretty good, we headed to The 3 Monkeys bar, quite a famous place. Had Monday Pie and orange juice (we don’t drink!), but atmosphere… maybe it’s because we didn’t go upstairs, but it wasn’t that great. I can imagine why people would go bar hopping around city, there are so many around, but if ever I do go bar hopping, it won’t be to drink- it would be to eat. That defeats the whole point of bar hopping ^^’’ But anyway, pie. It was good, especially with the very buttery mash~ and the carrots and peas sort of made it a little bit healthier. It was getting quite hot (around midday), so we sat at Ten Ren and chilled. Then we went into a puzzle store afterwards, and got a metal puzzle:

Went home, slaved away on my essay. Came back home and saw Scary lying on the mat being lazy.

Rawr.

Tuesday~ Class at 10, then headed to Ton Ton for ramen. Didn’t really feel like eating that day, so I found it pretty mediocre, nothing special (of course, it was nothing compared to Ryo’s ramen, which is, I think, the best you can get for ramen in Sydney)

I had a test to study for the next day, and so, we headed to Star Bar and must have spent at least 4 hours in there, getting drinks (non-alcoholic ones) and occasional snacks (chips, garlic bread) and trying to study. Haha, study. Yeah right. I think it must have been the lack of caffeine that day, I was really really sleepy the whole time. Maybe it was because of the dim lighting of Star Bar too, and the air con. After so much caffeine intake during the past few weeks of coffee, tea and Mother (energy drink), I decided to give it a rest that Tuesday, and ended up not being able to concentrate on studying, feeling extremely restless and fidgety, getting distracted with practically everything, from the big screen showing football games, to disturbing my friend sitting opposite me (I’m so sorry!) who was trying to read up on chemistry ^^’’ But, it was pretty relaxing spending hours there… though the songs they play are really quite trashy indeed, compared to Ten Ren and their nice selection of Chinese songs.
(digressing, for those who listen to Chinese songs, Jay Chou’s “Capricorn” album has some pretty nice songs~ I’ve only heard two songs so far, and they are absolutely great XD No, I’m not a Jay Chou fangirl…)

After that, met up with my parents for dinner at DTF (reviewed about it before in a few entries earlier). Brother couldn’t make it because he was sick (poor guy) but that just meant my parents and I get more food =D Their food was great as usual~ cannot get over how nice they make their xlb XD Their baos are pretty good too.

Their black sesame bao
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

Filled with really nice black sesame paste that isn’t runny at all (they don’t dilute it with water, so it’s an actual thick paste~)

My dad’s bao, with a huge bite taken out of it ^^~ Thanks, dad, dinner was wonderful!
So that was my birthday dinner celebration, or was meant to be. I had another today though, authentic home-made! But that’ll come later. Let’s see, Wednesday…

Strange, that was only yesterday and I can’t remember much of it. Did my exam (dad was nice and drove me to uni. It was raining and traffic was terrible, but I managed to sleep throughout the whole journey and woke up after about 2 hours of being in the car ^^) and it wasn’t too bad I hope… so that’s one subject over and done with. Met up with J.C for a quick lunch at BB’s before heading to the tutorial together, and she lent me more books to read, and gave me this:
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

XD すごーーく嬉しい!Was nice just sitting down and catching up. Sad we don’t do it as often as before, but we’d have plenty of chance to next year, since she’s in my French class and that’s 4 days of being in the same (hopefully) class~

and then… met up with TT (again… wow, I only just realised we met up so often this week, haha) for some quick window shopping (I don’t get it, why on earth is it so hard to find black shirts these days?!) and a quick meal before TT went to work. Went home and didn’t do much work…
Then today (yesterday by the time I get this posted), Thursday, received many birthday wishes, phone calls, sms, messages~ feeling really grateful and content that people remember it. Went to class at 11, my very last class for this semester, this year, as a third year student. Almost fell asleep in class, haha. Met up with J.C again for lunch =D Took a long walk to towards Townhall, and went to Wasaby (also blogged about before). They changed the menu! Everything’s not in sets anymore now, and it’s the typical choose-your-own-appetizer/main/dessert setup. I think we were quite hungry after that walk ^^’’ so we ordered:

fried eggplant with mochi (rice cake). It was so good!! Mochii~~ and eggplants are really good. Starting to find that eggplants are one of the best vegetables out there.

From 2008-15-10-0150-22
Finished off with dessert~ tofu pudding (J.C!! I forgot what it’s called again~ help? =D ) with azuki and strawberry~ the sauce tasted like sesame, and the pudding was firm but wobbly.. ^^ really nice as well. Looks like bao in the photo, haha.

Wandered off to kino, borders, and looked at fantasy/crime fiction books (yup, we have similar taste in books! *hi 5~*) before heading home, where I crashed and slept for about 3, 4 hours. It was such a nice sleep~ think I lacked too much sleep these past few days.

Was woken up by my brother, who just turned my lights on (and I nearly killed him for it, haha) and announced that dinner was ready. My dad went through so much trouble preparing all these wonderful dishes, like crab and other seafood, my mum made soup (she knows it’s my favourite part of dinner =D ) and it was a really cosy intimate family dinner at home. I honestly think I have awesome parents, brother and sister, and friends. Feeling contented, happy, thankful and grateful. I think after a week of hectic uni, and long hours at work, it’s a joy to just sit down, relax and be either alone, or with someone close (for me, it’s my family, and friends like J.C and TT). Some people prefer full-scale parties and celebrations on their birthdays, where tonnes of people get invited, and they can all share the celebration and joy in one big happy bunch. I can understand that, I’m sure that’s fun too, but my birthday… I prefer a quiet celebration, perhaps multiple celebrations with small groups or individuals. I’m still deciding whether or not to organise something next year, but… hm… might change my mind and make small group meetings here and there and take each group somewhere nice and different.

And yes, my birthday is officially over. I took too long typing this blog entry, and it’s an hour late in posting.

EDIT: Of course, the cake which my parents got for me from Tai Ban~

I’m still alive!

Just came back from a really hectic day at work, it was just crazy. First, we were understaffed (as usual), but didn’t think it’d be quite so bad because it’s a Sunday, and who goes out to buy food on Sunday right? But for some reason, we were either busy, or constant, so there was no rest. Was disturbed even during my half an hour break and ended up taking a 10 minute break instead. After working a 9 hour shift on Friday, a 10 hour shift on Saturday, and this 7 hour shift on Sunday, I’ve just about had it with work and gave my 7 hour shift tomorrow to my friend, who didn’t have enough hours (even though I’m supposed to be saving up for Japan, I think… life is more important, haha, I’d like to survive these few weeks first before going to Japan)

Now I’m back at home, with an essay to write, and a final exam this Wednesday to study for, before stuvac, where I have two exams to study for. Decided to procrastinate and start a blog entry… hoping I can find something happy to get into the mood of writing an essay. Actually craving sleep… been running on all sorts of caffeine lately. Since someone brought in lemons to the tearoom at work, I’ve been making lemon tea all the time. 2 strong teabags infused into one small Styrofoam cup of hot water, two tablespoons of brown sugar, and 2 slices of lemon (those lemons were huge). Repeat 3 times (which means I’ve actually been drinking 6 teabags of tea per day that I work, on top of the occasional “Mother” energy drink, or coffee, which I had this morning, and the many cups of Chinese tea I have when I get home)
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

Went to the omurice place at World Square, and had real lemon tea there, which brought about this whole phase of authentic, home-made lemon tea.
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

Though I tend to have it hot, because there’s no time to chill it, and I don’t trust the ice made in the freezer that’s in the tearoom.
Rewinding back, a week ago I had dinner with my brother at Café Insomnia. Strange thing is, it’s at Penno and I never went in there before that. That day, we were waiting to go home together, and the next bus came in more than an hour’s time, so we went inside and had dinner. My brother’s open steak sandwich:

For dessert, we rushed this, so we didn’t really get to enjoy it much, but it was still pretty good:

Some sort of cheesecake~ with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (on the other side, so you can’t see it) and raspberry sauce squiggled on the plate.
I think I’ll make this a food blog entry, mainly, since food cheers ppl up right?

From Ten Ren again (fast becoming one of the best places to just chill out) and this is their green tea flavoured pork rice noodles.
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

Not getting sick, it was just that day. Was feeling really off and my friend TT got me some medication (thank you~ really appreciate it). Took a night tablet when I got home and KO’d for about 10 hours… most sleep I’ve gotten in months.
Bought myself a new fantasy book, recommended by my dear friend J.C, who is also an avid fantasy book reader. She was the one who got me into reading fantasy books actually, lending me “The Immortal Prince” by Jennifer Fallon and getting me hooked (before that I would only read crime fiction).
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

Pretty good so far. Good procrastinating material!

This… is a flurry of brown and yellow fur, an attempt at taking a photograph of the cat wandering around Mackey building at uni on Friday. It was raining outside, and cold, so it took refuge inside the building where I was about to have my tut in. It wasn’t scared of girls (but it was scared of guys) so I was able to give it a hug =) Very cute, but ended up getting fur all over my black jacket. Hm.
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

Steak at Star World. This is their certified Angus steak. Star World is another place to just sit around and chat with a friend for hours. And yes, it is a bar, but as long as you don’t drink (or drink too much), and don’t go on… say, late Friday night or Saturday night, you’ll find it a pretty nice place. Steak was nice, with a choice of either mash or chips (yes, mash isn’t much healthier, but it’s nicer) and your choice of sauce (I chose cracked pepper) and it has fried pumpkin bits on top.
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

It was rare.
From 2008-15-10-0150-22

End off with something cute before I go start my essay… because I’m feeling guilty and should really be working on it.
:O
